Te Kura Tennis Club
The Te Kura Tennis club is largely dedicated to the development of junior tennis. We also aim to create a family friendly environment by providing opportunities within the club for all family members. We have comprehensive playing and coaching programs with a clear pathway from young beginners (Tennis Hot Shots) through to Junior and Senior Interclub. We welcome both recreational and competitive players.
In the 2016-17 Summer the Te Kura Tennis Club had 28 teams in the Canterbury Tennis Interclub competition. We also had 16 Hot Shots groups, receiving coaching on Fridays and Saturdays.
Te Kura is arguably the strongest Junior Club, with 8 of our 28 teams winning their grades and 4 more teams finishing runner up. In the April 2017 Canterbury Championships, 26 TK players took part, 5 of whom won Canterbury titles and there were plenty of other strong performances.
We currently have 6 senior inter-club teams to accommodate competitive senior players and provide another stepping stone for our most outstanding juniors. We are all about juniors and seniors competing together, having fun and the team always comes first! We continue to build our senior program from year to year.
Other opportunities for senior players include competitive Midweek Ladies teams, social senior match-play on Tuesday nights and, of course, Coaching.
Furthermore, we have a wide variety of events throughout the year including BBQs, social events and tournaments including our in-house club champs and extremely popular Parent-Child tournament as well as open tournaments, which attract players from around Christchurch. The coaching team is also pro-active in organising team trips for Juniors to regional and even international tournaments.
